Why study this course?
Being a Yoga Therapist is a rewarding career whereby you can instruct students beyond asana and pranayama, guiding them to integrate a holistic personal practice to create a balanced and content life.
Yoga Therapy is a fast growing field of complementary therapy and works by using a range of tools to promote the wellbeing of each student according to their individual health needs.
Studying Yoga Therapy takes you beyond teaching general classes and into the space of empowering students who have injury or illness, helping them to progress towards improved health and wellbeing through the teachings of Yoga. Yoga Therapy is often provided in one-to-one consultations but it can also be used in Yoga Therapy group programs.
Course pre-requisites
This course is designed for students that have
- A minimum of a 350 Yoga Teacher Training accreditation and
- Experience in yoga teaching and had a personal Yoga practice of two years. You will also need to obtain a First Aid Certificate.

Course structure
The course runs over two years with students gathering for 12 face-to-face training intensives at the Yogic Wisdom Studio.
These sessions will run from 8:00 – 3:00 from Thursday through Sunday on the dates below.
The individual development of every student is paramount. As well as the face-to-face teaching sessions each student will be required to complete 150 hours of additional study including;
- 150 hours of home study.
- 8 two-hour personal mentoring sessions.
- 16 hours of shadowing with a senior therapist.
- Ongoing guidance and support of their personal yoga practice minimum of six months of one-one supervision of their yoga therapy technique.

About the Principal, Kym Lakshmi McDonald
Post Graduate Diploma of Yoga Therapy, Senior Level Yoga Teacher, Diploma of Yoga, Certificate IV in Ayurveda, NSW Representative for Yoga Australia.
During her 17-year journey with Yoga and other healing modalities, Kym was drawn to Krishnamacharya’s holistic approach, moving beyond just the physical body to heal and help the whole person. With this in mind Kym founded Yogic Wisdom and the Karma Yoga Foundation where she and the faculty combine the art and science of Yoga Therapy and Yoga to share Krishnamacharya’s teachings with others.
Kym has been a practicing Yoga Therapist for 4 years, providing students with healing practices reflecting her studies with Dr NC at the KYM Centre in Chennai India.
Beyond the mat Kym is a professional trainer and educator and has applied her expertise to the development of this course. Studying with Kym, students will learn how to integrate the ancient traditions and healing applications of yoga therapy to create practices that suit an individual’s needs.
Cari Havican
Registered Yoga Therapist, Senior Level Yoga Teacher.
Combining her knowledge of Yoga Therapy, naturopathy and remedial massage, Cari teaches students about how Yoga practices influence the anatomy and major body systems.
Cari is inspired to provide personalised practices in a nurturing and supportive environment. Her special areas of interest include: cancer (especially
breast cancer), general women’s health, back care, stress reduction and rehabilitation from chronic illness.
Cari studied Yoga Therapy with both Dr. Ganesh Mohan and Australian Institute of Yoga Therapy.
